Behavior Based Safety Systems

As many of you know Higbee & Associates, Inc. has offered through our "bee safe" division behavior based safety consulting and products for many years. We offered our clients our own BBS products but also helped clients obtain and use almost every BBS product available in the market. The Higbee & Associates Safety Team felt our clients would be better served if we simply offered the very best BBS product available rather than have them choose from the endless list available. So we went to work and after researching the results our clients and others achieved through all the BBS products available two sister products had by far the best results. We are extremely happy to be able to offer what we feel are the two most effective Behavior Based products available today - and . We will continue to offer assistance to those of you who have other products as your primary behavior based program through our consulting division. See the brief about each product below and if you would like more information about either please contact us.

SAFESTART

is an advanced safety awareness and safety skill development training program. The purpose of is to help people prevent the errors and mistakes they never wanted to make in the first place. It's not about rules and procedures or specific workplace hazards. It's about keeping those (and other) hazards in mind and in sight….

Knowing about a hazard won't do you much good if you're not thinking about it or you don't see it in the first place. teaches people when they're most likely to make an injury-causing error and what to do so they don't make that error and unexpectedly come into contact with some hazardous energy. However, instead of focusing on the hazardous energy, focuses on the state of mind the person is in. It teaches people that there are four states that lead to four injury causing errors.

Many safety programs provide information about hazards or awareness of hazards or dangerous situations - usually relating to specific workplace scenarios. But, because humans make errors and unexpected things can happen anywhere and at any time, knowing about a hazard isn't enough. People need to develop skills and habits that will keep them safe in any situation at any time. That's what sets apart from other programs. It teaches people to recognize the state to error patterns that (greatly) increase the risk of injury and gives them four critical error reduction techniques they can use to develop the safety skills and habits to keep them safe at work, at home and on the road.

SAFETRACK

is an observation and feedback process. Observation and feedback processes or behavior based safety processes have been around for a long time (over 30 years). Thousands of companies in the United States, Canada and around the world have used them successfully to significantly decrease injuries. However, the injury reductions and other benefits aren't free. They require hard work and well-trained observers.

Teaching people how to observe a co-worker and how to deliver meaningful positive reinforcement is primarily what this course is about. Secondarily, it's about how to positively correct at-risk behavior if observed. It also teaches people how to record and track their observations so the data can be analyzed and improvement strategies can be developed.

There are many benefits to an observation and feedback process, most importantly a significant decrease in injuries (over 60%). However, there are many other benefits, including improved participation and communication, a large increase in positive reinforcement for safe behaviors, reduced costs and downtime, better following of rules and procedures, and overall safer conditions.

Implementing after provides additional benefits that complement both programs, like employee acceptance of an observation program, reinforcement of key safety awareness concepts, faster and more sustained injury reductions, and improved safety culture. Plus, our history has shown these two programs are a proven, winning combination.
